Take a Step, Make the Change

February 26, 2018

If you have read any of my previous posts, you would know that I am all about self improvement and being the best you can be. I truly believe that the decisions we make daily and the commitments we make either help us or hurt us. No matter what it is, big or small, every action has an impact on our lives and our way of thinking. With that being said, sometimes your heart really does wants to change but your mind somehow talks you out of it. I know we've all been through this infuriating cycle way to many times! You've put up with it for too long, its time for us to break the bad habits, in only 5 seconds.

Okay so, recently I have been hearing about The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins. Since I had previously heard of Mel Robbins and have been curious about this book that she published I went and listened to The School of Greatness Podcast where Lewis Howes interviewed Mel on the book and her "5 second rule". This podcast has truly changed the way I think about the things I do everyday. I highly recommend everyone click on the link and listen to this podcast because it will help you, I promise!

I have always talked about making good choices and being committed to a plan to improve yourself. But, what I did not realize is that sometimes no matter how badly we intend to do something, if we feel insecure or incapable of making the change, we get in our own way and nothing changes. Life is about action. In the podcast, Mel talks about how doubt and fear come from our thoughts. When you get stuck inside your own head you hesitate, and the moment of hesitation is enough to make you not take action.

Mel's 5 second rule is a tool we can all use to help us take action. In order to improve and grow as people we have to make change. Yes, change can appear scary because thats how we perceive it. Change makes us uncomfortable and makes us think- which causes a feeling of fear. If we stop thinking and take action it will allow us to make the change. If you want to commit to being healthier and excersicing more, do it! Count down 5,4,3,2,1 like Mel talks about and take the first step to the gym (or whatever you want to do)! Get moving and stop thinking. By using the 5 second rule you are forcing your brain to stop thinking and to take action.

Whether you want to get off the couch and finish the laundry, or get out of the house and go to the gym, you have to make a move! I'm telling you this is such a simple tool but will really allow you to change your thoughts which will in turn change your actions... don't worry guys, you can thank me (and Mel) later.
