Week 6

November 28, 2017

Happy, Healthy, Purposeful was created from my own desire to improve. I am constantly looking for ways to expand my knowledge, health and career and I am excited to embark on this journey with you all. I have been playing competitive golf for 13 years and have been playing professionally since 2014. Throughout this journey I have realized how important it is to live a Happy, Healthy and Purposeful life no matter what your path may be. We are all on different journeys but my hope is that we can grow together.

 Happy

One of the many people that I gain inspiration and knowledge from is Tony Robbins. He is a bestselling author, self help guru and has spent a majority of his life helping others succeed. I saw a quote that really resinated with me. Robbins said "Identify your problems, but give power and energy to solutions." When I really think about the statement it applies in so many aspects of life. We face challenges and difficulties everyday that we have to overcome. If we are giving our energy to the problems, we are giving them life. This allows them to become way more powerful and damaging than they should be. Instead, put your energy into the solution and make a conscious effort to move forward, instead of looking back.

Healthy

This week we are talking snacks! Unless I plan my snacks ahead of time I end up leaving the house with no food which leaves me with tons of unhealthy options. I like to prepare snacks so that my diet doesn't go down the drain because of my hunger. This week I have discovered these almond butter energy bites. I have put a twist on them to add some protein. They take about 10 minutes total to make and the are delicious so it is definitely worth your time. You can change the recipe to your liking!

- 1 1/2 cups of rolled oats

- 1 cup of almond butter (I used Justin's maple flavored)

- 1/4 cup of honey

- 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips

- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

- 1 teaspoon of apple pie spice (to add a fall flavor)

- 1 scoop of protein (I used Jym vanilla flavored)

Add all ingredients in a bowl and mix together. Once it is combined, take 1 tablespoon and roll into balls. If you need more liquid to make the balls stick together add a teaspoon of water. These store well in the fridge and last about 5 days.

Shop a similar tank top. Its so slimming and versatile! I can wear it to workout or to run errands.

Purposeful

Through the many ups and downs of playing professional golf, I have needed to talk myself through a lot of difficult situations. I have encountered a number of problems, hard times and low points. One thing that helps me think clearly is to write it down. By keeping a journal I am able to see my thoughts on paper (or the computer) and refer back to it. While its great to just write thoughts; it really helps me to think things through and to understand why I might be feeling the way I am and how to work through it.

I listened to the Tim Ferris Show #266: Books, Supplements, Simple Technologies, and More where I found a great tool to get to the root of my thoughts. He explains he learned to ask "So what?" from Richa Chadda. If you are struggling with a fear or insecurity you ask your self "So what?" answering each time. You repeat this process until you get to a cause or root of your emotion. Its okay to be vulnerable and honest with yourself. Keeping things buried inside will do nothing but cause you to feel more emotional stress.
