Week 1

Happy, Healthy, Purposeful was created from my own desire to improve. I am constantly looking for ways to expand my knowledge, health and career and I am excited to embark on this journey with you all. I have been playing competitive golf for 13 years and have been playing professionally since 2014. Throughout this journey I have realized how important it is to live a Happy, Healthy and Purposeful life no matter what your path may be. We are all on different journeys but my hope is that we can grow together.

Happy

One thing I have noticed in today’s world is that we get so caught up in going all the time; busy going from place to place, being efficient and trying to stay caught up on our obligations. I am definitely guilty of saying I don’t have time for something that makes me happy or productive but will spend 30 minutes on my phone looking at nothing of importance. My challenge for you is to replace a part of your normal “technology time” (watching tv, looking at your phone, checking emails) with something you enjoy. Go for a walk or spend some time alone reflecting on your day. It will give you a quick refreshment you need and energy to get you through the day. I have also noticed I get headaches less frequently if I give my eyes and my mind a rest.

Healthy

Try a new recipe! I am all about my food but I am guilty of reaching for the “comfort food” when I’ve had a bad day instead of listening to what my body needs. If you can find a way to replace one or two unhealthy things each day you will see a huge difference through the week!

- Put the chips down. Replace potato chips or pretzels with berries or carrot sticks.

- Stay away from the pasta. I like to still make the pasta sauce but use spiraled zucchini for a low carb substitution.

- Don't go over board on dessert. You can still have a piece of dark chocolate or a 1/2 cup of ice cream but don't go overboard on the sugar. This will help you sleep better and wake up feeling refreshed.

By making a few small adjustments we can help our body and sustain our energy instead of a quick fix and an afternoon energy crash. It's not easy if you are an emotional eater like me but it is worth it!

Purposeful

Step up your calendar game. I cannot live without a planner or notebook of some sort to help me remember my to do list and hold me accountable to my plans. Its very easy to procrastinate and forget to do those not so fun items on your list. Once you write it down it makes it harder to ignore. You will get it done and that will free up time and energy for other things you want to do. Get organized and make sure to be overly detailed about what you want to get done this week! This is a great way to stay accountable.
